Yeah, I kept forgetting while we were at the tavern...
[ because i didn't want his karaoke trauma to ruin our cute karaoke night...... anyway, speaking of, the cat cafe shifts—the lighting flicks into a deep, sultry red, and the smell of the room moves from coffee and air freshener to something indescribably acrid. it looks seedy, with food and drink unlike anything on Earth, and an instrumental version of a popular song playing out for the almost comically large karaoke screen behind them.
amongst the many strange aliens sitting in the room, the largest one storms up towards the two of them, furiously reaching to grab at their heads before the scene freezes in place as till flinches, as though his sudden twitch stops the dreamscape from playing out. ]
[ to be fair it's a stupid thing to have trauma over on the tin. get traumatized somewhere cool. ]
...Yeah. [ he steps out and kicks the stupid ugly alien here, with enough energy that he spins on his heel a little. stalling because this is an awkward subject. ] Urak—this guy. My, uh... [ owner. ] He was always trying to make himself look like a big shot, thought I'd entertain his stupid little clubhouse. Asshole. Like I ever listened to you before!
[ he gives him another pointless kick before he hops off the short performance podium to go look for an exit—from the dream or the room—looking a little pale. ]
I know it doesn't sound like a big deal. But in my universe, humans are valued for singing. [ he scoffs. ] Probably why we didn't just get wiped out.

[ the door does open when he tries it, and he ushers them out in a hurry. it's a nasty place for a lot of reasons and he's eager to dream up something new. ]
Every rotten seg—alien does shit like this. We're just fucking pets to them anyway.
[me trying to find something that is short enough to give you that you won't need a ton of context for. anyway, this video through 2:45.
in the room, he will see a dark underground temple. the walls are black stone and purple and gold marble. there's a deep pool in the center of the room with stairs that descend down through the pool into emptiness.
at the head of the temple is a statue of a woman in dancer's garb, with a headdress covering her eyes and two swords. tall and imposing. and in shadowheart's imagination, the woman speaks with a voice you hear only in your head.]
All you must do is use my spear to end her light. And then you will become a Dark Justiciar, blessed with my power. You will become my voice to those embrace me, and my sword arm against those who would do me harm.
[shadowheart is frightened, grabs his arm to try to draw him back from going further in there.]
[ he doesn't have the context here, but the scene before them still carries eeriness and gravitas, and he only shoots the statue a look before going right along with her. the room is still dark, and the sound of water seems to follow them all the same. ]
[ well, some murder is okay... he chances a look back to see if they're making some headway. even in a dream, this feels like a dangerous person to turn their back on. ]
Well. It was a few things, really. First of all, she was a prisoner. [it doesn't exactly feel good to kill someone who is chained up and helpless.] Second of all, my friends didn't want me to, and their opinion mattered. And third of all, she made some good arguments.
She seemed to know certain things about my past, things Lady Shar has always hidden from me. I wanted to hear what she had to say more than I wanted to obey.
[no, the water is getting deeper, before abruptly they're submerged, located instead in a dark realm of smoke and floating rocks.]

It does sound like a big deal, honestly. I suppose it isn't easy for something you enjoy to become something you're forced into.

The last thing we need to deal with is Lady Shar.

...Who's this Shar supposed to be?
no subject
[they leave this area, but the water seems to be rising around their feet anyway, levels growing higher.]
She made many demands of me, which I fulfilled until the day I finally did not.

he asks, frankly, ]
Was this the one you couldn't do? Killing this person?
no subject
Yes. Though don't misunderstand. I've killed plenty for Lady Shar, or on her behalf. In this particular case, I decided not to.
no subject
...What was different this time?
no subject
She seemed to know certain things about my past, things Lady Shar has always hidden from me. I wanted to hear what she had to say more than I wanted to obey.

So she didn't want you to—woah!!
[ the water rises suddenly over their heads, the ground falling out, and he holds his breath like any of this could really? kill them?
but after a second, he peeks open an eye and just takes a look around, uncertain. ]
...Where are we now?
no subject
[It's not real. We can leave. she's tense anyway, looking for an exit.]
This is Lady Shar's domain.
