Yes, that about sums it up - at least as best as we can tell. We don't exactly know what that thing wants, but it seems to be trying to push us to give into sins. Maybe make it look like we don't deserve to be here.

I agree with you. They've been heavy-handed with the promises and they've still had to essentially force us. As far as I know, only one of us has ever even taken an apple of our own will, though that may be untrue as of night.

I don't have any idea what the criteria for considering us borderline even was. [she laughs a little suddenly awkward.] I don't mean myself, that one I understand - I just mean there are some people here who are really kind and wonderful, and as far as I can tell have never done anything so terrible so as to be a complex case. And then there are a bunch of nice kids who have hardly done much in their lives at all.

You're sweet. I've done plenty to have to atone for, and also plenty that I'm not particularly sorry for. But I have never particularly relished the notion of being judged for any of it by someone other than myself.
